Prof. Paul Thomas is Emeritus Professor of Analytical Science at the Department of Chemistry, Loughborough University. He graduated with his PhD in trace volatile organic compound detection in 1988 and has led and contributed to the sampling, analysis, and subsequent discovery of VOC since then. He was an endowed lecturer at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology from 1989 to 1997 and subsequently joined the School for Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science at the relaunched University of Manchester in 2004. In 2007 he was appointed Professor of Analytical Science at Loughborough University, Director of the Centre of Analytical Science, and Head of The Department of Chemistry. He has also served the UK’s Atomic Agency Safety and Reliability Directorate and as a scientific advisor to a range of governmental bodies. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and is the Honorary Secretary to the IABR.
